John Robert Marzano (February 14 1963 – April 19 2008) popularly called “Johnny Marz”, was an American professional baseball catcher who was a part of Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers as well as the Seattle Mariners, from 1987 until 1992, and from 1995 until 1998. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marzano graduated from the city’s Central High School, and briefly went to Holy Family College, studying radiologic technology. He was a student at Temple University, where he was a catcher on the Temple Owls baseball team from 1982 until 1984. The year 1982 was the first time he was a part of college summer baseball for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Marzano ended his collegiate career with an .413 per-inning batting average. The player was named as an All-American by three different organizations in 1984. the catcher hit .448 as well as 15 home runs as well as 61 RBI. Marzano was one of the greatest Temple University leader in batting average, slugging rate, as well as home runs.
