The birthplace of his father was Oshawa, Ontario, Canada on the 21st of May 1959 as the son of John Foote and Dianne Foote. He was the fourth oldest among four kids. The family moved to Seagrave at the age of four and he was raised within his hometown of the Port Perry area. When he was a child, dad introduced him films, bringing him to. Foote remembers being sent to bed around seven in the evening, only to awake at 11:25 pm, just before the beginning the Fright Night Theatre on WKBW- TV from Buffalo, New York in the sixties. He recounts how he got obsessed with film in the seventies, when he was viewing his first Red Sea part in a remake of the movie The Ten Commandments, and it was from that point on that, “film became my heroin”.
Following a fatal car accident in 2000, and a lengthy stay in the hospital, Foote was released from his job at Trebas and was replaced. After his recuperation following his recuperation, an employee of the Toronto Film School contacted him and offered him a job after his release from the hospital. In 2001, he was appointed coordinator for the Film and Television Program at the Toronto Film School and two years later, he was elevated into Director, which that he held until the end of March.
His work as a critic continued, writing for the syndicated Metroland Organization, Toronto Life and Fashion, and various websites. His reviews and criticisms receive attention in Canada, where he has shared such as his own Academy Awards predictions. In addition, Foote was a member of InContention as their Toronto International Film Festival critic until February 2010. He then moved to The Awards Circuit, where he continued to cover TIFF and introduced Historical Circuit to their regular columns. He resigned in 2013.
His wife, Sherri Frances Foote (nee Todd) was diagnosed with advanced brain cancer in 2008, and despite two surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy died in his arms April 27, 2012. The couple have two children.
The year 1992 was the time that Foote got the chance to participate in a new show on television called Reel to Real, which was his first time as a co-host and co-producer. For seven years, he hosted and co-produced the show alongside Christopher Heard for the Rogers Network. The Globe and Mail hailed the duo as Canada’s answer Siskel as well as Ebert. After a disagreement from producers Foote quit the show in 1999, to concentrate on print criticism and has since continued to work within the area.

John Howard Foote (born May 21 1959 ) in Oshawa, Ontario) is a Canadian film critic biographer, historian, and historian, and a former TV producer, TV host, director of theater and teacher.
Foote directed more than forty productions from the years 1980-1996. He was the artistic director at Theatre One for three years and in 1992 was awarded the THEA Award for his direction of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, one of the numerous American post-war plays he directed from 1988-1993. The plays that he directed in this time included The Glass Menagerie, Agnes of God, Picnic, The Passion of Dracula, Salt-Water Moon, The Crucible (twice), The Shadow Box, Jitters, A Streetcar Named Desire, Torch Song Trilogy and Equus.
In 2007 he was contracted by the Greenwood Publishing Group in the United States to write a biography of director Clint Eastwood, Clint Eastwood: Evolution of a Filmmaker, published in 2010. He has since written a massive study on the films of Steven Spielberg, which will be published in 2020 and The Great American Films of the Seventies. He has recently agreed to write a study of the films of Martin Scorsese.
