Everson was born on the 26th of June, 1966, and spent the majority of his youth living in Tinley Park, IL. After graduation, he attended The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with an education in journalism in 1988. He was employed for two years by The Star Newspapers in Chicago Heights, IL, where he launched his weekly review of music called “Pop Stops.” The column was written by him for the newspaper for over 20 years, all the way to the newspaper’s departure from The Star as a full-time reporter, and later as an editor of The Illinois Entertainer magazine for four years. The first two novels he wrote feature the reporter Joe Kieran, as the main character, drawing upon his experiences in journalism.

Everson added two more stories in his V-Wars book series that was written as edited and written by Jonathan Maberry and published by IDW Publishing. The stories he wrote “Love Less” (from V-Wars 2012.) in addition to “Love Lost” (from V-Wars: Night Terrors, 2015) developed the characters of the vampire twins Danika And Mila Dubov. The two make an appearance in the initial episode of the Netflix series V-Wars that premiered on December. 5, 2019.
