John Diffley (born January 11 1967 at New City, New York) is a former American soccer player currently serving as an Associate Director of Athletics of the Administration department for St. John’s University.

As of 1995 Diffley was named the coach of his Dominican College men’s soccer team. In 1997, Diffley moved into St. John’s University where was an assistant coach of the team for men’s soccer as he worked on his master’s in business administration.

American University inducted Diffley into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.

The year 1989 was the time that Diffley started his career as a professional with the Albany Capitals of the American Soccer League (ASL). Following the completion in the ASL year, the player was signed as an expansion indoor player with the Atlanta Attack of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). The Attack placed second in the league’s 1989-1990 standings , and advanced to the semi-finals of the playoffs, but ended up falling to Dayton Dynamo. In the off-season of 1990, the AISA changed its name to as the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). The Attack was able to finish 2nd in standings however, they fell behind to Dayton once more in the initial round of playoffs. The following summer, Diffley was transferred towards The Penn-Jersey Spirit of the American Professional Soccer League (APSL). Diffley was then able to decide to pursue his hand at a career in Europe. He joined Dutch Second Division club HFC Haarlem and played in the 1992-93 time playing in the Netherlands. The year 1994 saw Diffley was a part of his team, the North Jersey Imperials of USISL in which he served as captain and made the USISL All-Star team. The following year in 1995, he was signed to the Long Island Rough Riders. In 1995, Long Island won the USISL national championship. Diffley was included on the Championship All-Tournament team. In the Tampa Bay Mutiny of Major League Soccer (MLS) were drafted Diffley at the end of the third selection (twenty-seventh all-around) of the Draft in 1996. Diffley was a part of thirteen games before being sold with the Kansas City Wizards for the 1997 season. After the Wizards let him go Diffley was an all-time coach, but played with his team the Staten Island Vipers in 1998 and 1999. As of 2003 Diffley played as a coach assistant to players for the New York Freedom.

U.S. in 1988 when the team was vying for a spot in the U.S. Olympic Team. His final game was played just six months later when he was an alternate for Brian Bliss in a June 12 match against Ecuador. The national team was in preparation to compete in the 1988 Summer Olympics. Diffley was chosen as an alternate for 1988 U.S. Olympic Team.

In 2001, Diffley gained his master’s degree and left St. John’s to work in the financial industry. On January 1, 2004, Diffley returned to St. John’s when the school hired him as its Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration.
