He was a member of with the CBI in the role of a policy advisor in 1982. He was subsequently promoted to the CBI’s youngest director in 1991, and assumed the environmental affairs section. He was promoted to human resource policy in 1995, and he helped negotiate the United Kingdom’s first minimum wage for national employment and acceptance into EU’s “social chapter” on employment conditions.
