On October 2, 2017, Coppolella resigned his position as general manager after Major League Baseball disclosed several violations regarding the Braves signing for international athletes. Prior to that, Coppolella had been under criticism for not following MLB rules against altering players from other teams as well as signing pre-draft agreements that included amateurs.

John Coppolella (born July 28 1979) is an ex- American front office executive in the baseball industry who was General Manager for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB) between 2015 to 2017. Coppolella quit as the director general of the Braves following a series of minor infractions to signings by amateurs. MLB has banned the manager for life in the wake of these infractions.
After finishing his studies, Coppolella was offered and initially accepted a position at Intel. He then decided to pursue opportunities in the baseball industry, and then decided to turn Intel down to take on an job at the New York Yankees, working as a member of that MLB group from 2001 to the year 2006.
