John Boccieri (born October 5 1969) is an American politician who was elected for the filling of the 59th District seat in the Ohio House of Representatives on September 29 in 2015. He resigned after unsuccessfully running for the Ohio State Senate in 2018. He was his U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 16th congressional district from 2009 until 2011. He lost his attempt in 2010 to re-elect Republican Jim Renacci. He is an active member of the Democratic Party, and previously was a member of both the Ohio State Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives. Boccieri is a resident of Poland, Ohio.

On the 2nd of November in 2010, Boccieri failed to secure another election to Congress after losing to Republican billionaire Jim Renacci. He was beaten by a landslide in a overwhelmingly Republican year. Boccieri was able to get just 40percent of votes in comparison to 52 percent to Renacci (a Libertarian candidate took all the other votes).

On September 29, 2015 Boccieri was appointed to the Ohio House of Representatives, filling the 59th District vacancy caused by the resignation of Ron Gerberry. He did not run for re-election in 2018, instead opting to run for the 33rd District seat in the Ohio State Senate, losing to Michael Rulli in the general election.

There was speculation all through 2007 that Boccieri was likely to be a candidate to challenge U.S. Representative Ralph Regula to represent the 16th District of the U.S. House, a seat Regula was in for the past 36 years. After Regula declared his resignation in the latter part of 2007, Boccieri was in an uncontested field. He beat state Representative Mary Cirelli with 64% of the votes during the Democratic primary. He was defeated by Senate President Kirk Schuring in the general election. It was his first time as a Democrat to represent the district for 58 years.

Boccieri is a native of Youngstown in the city of Youngstown, where he graduated from Ursuline High School in 1988. He was a student at St. Bonaventure University in New York, graduating with an B.S. in 1992.
