John Batchelor is one of the most popular and richest American author who was born on January 4, 1959 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, United States. William John Batchelor (4 January 1959 11 April 2010,) also commonly referred to under the name John Batchelor, was an English businessman, race driver who was a political activist as well as a football player. He was the chairman of York City F.C. from 2002 until 2003, at which point He was also responsible for the management of York City Racing, a motor racing team which competed at the British Touring Car Championship.
Batchelor was admitted to hospital in late 2006 to treat alcoholism. He was a participant in James Derry’s attempt to purchase Mansfield Town in March 2008 however, he eventually made his own bid to purchase the club. Batchelor announced plans to rename Mansfield Town “Harchester United”, after the fictional team featured in The Sky show Dream Team. This was described as “absolutely bizarre” by Mansfield Mayor Tony Egginton, who was appointed the club’s non-executive Chairman, which raised doubt about the proposed takeover by Batchelor. Batchelor was later discovered to have received an PS1.5 million offer for Accrington Stanley turned down by chairman Eric Whalley, which proposed the relocation of a newly created “Lancashire United” to Leigh and the construction of a 10,000-seat stadium. He had discussions in conjunction with Chester City chairman Stephen Vaughan regarding the possibility of buying the team in October. Batchelor led a consortium which put forward an PS12.5 million bid to purchase Southampton during July of 2009. He was barred from serving as an executive director of the company until the end of 2010 , after he permitted two of his businesses, Moornate Chemists Limited and The Besglos Polish Company Limited in order to make transactions for the benefit of affiliated businesses and himself at the expense to their lenders.
Batchelor was appointed the chairman and owner of York City on 15 March 2002, after acquiring the team by Douglas Craig; he was said that he spent PS4.5 million to purchase the team, but it was later revealed that he purchased the club for PS1. When he took control of the club the chairman declared he had two venues in his mind for a brand new stadium with 15,000 seats. He expressed an intention to purchase ITV Digital in May, which he later said would not be a success. The club’s name was changed in the name change from York City Football Club to York City Soccer Club, in an effort to draw attention to United States markets. Additionally, the racing brand of Batchelor was introduced into other aspects of the club. The official badge was adorned with an embroidered chequered flag incorporated into it as did the original kit for the team, which featured an image of racing on the sleeves. Batchelor promised to purchase the York’s Bootham Crescent ground, give the Supporters Trust 24% of the shares in the club, and to invite two supporters on the board However, none of these was completed. According to reports, Batchelor received death threats regarding the way the club was being run. York was placed in administration on the 18th of December. Batchelor attempted to buy the club but supporters trust refused to buy the club. Supporters Trust eventually bought the club on March 26, 2003. After his experience at York Batchelor stated that “I did nothing wrong” and “I tried hard to make it work as a business”. The club was later investigated through the Department of Trade and Industry following pressure from fans. Batchelor earned an estimated profit of more than PS300,000 through his involvement with York and during the time the club was in financial hardships, he purchased an apartment for the sum of PS250,000.
