Johanna Barbara Stachel (born 3 December 1954 in Munich) is an German nuclear physicist from Germany. She is a professor in experimental physics at the University of Heidelberg (Ruprecht-Karls-Universitat Heidelberg). Stachel was the ex- president of the German Physical Society (DPG).

On March 28, 2014, she was granted honorary membership in the Physikalischen Verein, Frankfurt, in which she is listed with famous figures like Heinrich Hertz, Albert Einstein and Otto Stern.

Stachel was elected president of the German Physical Society for a two-year term beginning in 2012. Her top two priorities as President were first to defend fundamental research by highlighting its importance, and secondly to encourage physical education in schools through increasing the education of physics teachers as well as the standards in German schools.
