Joel Salinas (/s @ ‘ Joel Salinas (/s @ ‘ 11 July 1983; born on July 11 1983) is an American neurologist and writer and is now an Assistant Professor of Neurology in Harvard Medical School. He practices general neurology with a specialization in neuropsychiatry and behavioral neurology within the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also a clinical scientist in the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Framingham Study at the Boston University School of Medicine.

Salinas received the title of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in the year 2011. In 2006, in the medical program, a tumour in the right side of his brain was identified. After resection the tumor was found to be vein-like. The tumor was, thankfully, benign and the invasion was limited to the destruction of the skull bone overlying. Between 2008 and 2009, he was an entire year as an Doris Duke clinical research fellow in the field of neuropsychiatric imaging with the U. of I.’s Carver College of Medicine, which was where he was involved in a tragic car crash. Additionally, he completed a joint MD and MBA program, obtaining the Master of Business Administration in Health Sector Policy and Management at the University of Miami Business School and winning the University of Miami Annual Business Plan Competition’s Grand Prize.

Salinas’s awards include the American Academy of Neurology’s Robert Katzman Research Training Fellowship Award in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research in 2017.

Salinas’s research focuses on reducing the negative impact of stroke, dementia, and brain aging by harnessing insights gained from integrating epidemiology, social and behavioral sciences, and digital phenotyping (i.e., the moment-by-moment quantification of the individual-level human phenotype in daily life using data from smartphones and other personal digital devices).

Salinas finished his residency in neurology at Harvard from 2011 until 2015, completing his training on Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was the chief resident in neurology and then completed an internship in Behavioral Neurology as well as Neuropsychiatry in Massachusetts General Hospital. He graduated with the Master in Science in Epidemiology from Harvard T.H.
