Jodeen Carney is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on December 9, 1965 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Jodeen Carney (born 9 December 1965) is an Australian politician in Australia. Carney was the Country Liberal Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from September 2001 until September 2010 and was a representative of the Alice Springs-based electorate in Araluen. She was the Shadow Attorney- General, and Shadow Minister for Justice, Health, Family and Community Services, Business and Industry, Women’s Policy, Territory Development, the AustralAsia Railway, Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Central Australia and Defence Support. Up to 29 January 2008, her position was Opposition Leader.
In the middle of 2003 the Opposition Leader’s deputy Mike Reed resigned, and Carney was widely believed to be the favorite to succeed the position. However, in a shocking outcome, widely blamed on both her poor relations to the powerful Alice Springs branch and her acceptance, in opposition to the wishes of Denis Burke’s leadership and was defeated by Richard Lim, Dr. Richard Lim. But she quickly switched sides and decided to vote for Terry Mills after Burke refused to permit an unconscience vote regarding the age of consent legislation. Her promotion was later elevated, becoming Shadow Attorney General in addition to Shadow Minister for Justice as well as, in the latter half of 2004, she was appointed the Shadow Minister of Health.
On 29 January 2008, Mills asked Carney if she was willing to swap posts with him, with Mills becoming leader and Carney becoming deputy leader. Carney refused, instead calling a leadership spill. The vote was tied at two votes apiece. Under CLP rules, Carney could have theoretically remained leader. However, Carney announced that a tie was not a vote of confidence and resigned, echoing Prime Minister John Gorton’s move in 1971. This left Mills to take the leadership unopposed on a second vote.
Carney announced her resignation from parliament on 19 August 2010, effective 3 September. She cited health reasons as the primary cause of her resignation. The CLP’s refusal to disendorse Leo Abbott, who had been charged with domestic violence, as their candidate for the Federal seat of Lingiari was also a reason for her resigning, Robyn Lambley, a former deputy mayor of Alice Springs, was elected in her place in a by-election.
Carney’s run for pre-selection garnered some attention from the media because she was a prominent candidate, however she was ultimately ignored in those in the Alice Springs branch. In the end, John Elferink, a sitting MP who lost his preselection, wrote to the CLP’s Central Council, making claims that branch stacking was a problem. The impact of this letter was massive. On the 25th of November 2000, which was dubbed by local news media “The Night of the Long Knives” All the preselections for that branch of Alice Springs branch were overturned as was The Central Council instead dictated who could run as the CLP candidate. Elferink got reinstated. Carney won preselection to Araluen and the incumbent Minister and MP Loraine Bradley was removed to make room to Peter Harvey, who had been previously chosen ahead of Carney to represent Araluen. The controversial and unpredictably made decision by head office could almost guarantee her a place in the Parliament, it did earn her numerous enemies in that local branch.

The CLP’s votes fell by 27 percentage points from 1997 election, which was contested by her long-running predecessor Eric Poole. However, she ultimately won victory with the sum of 134 votes.
Carney faced her first re-election bid at the 2005 election. While commentators were generally divided on whether she would hold her seat, as it was the CLP’s most marginal, almost no one expected the final result. On election day, there were massive and unprecedented swings to the Labor Party in every seat in the Territory—except Araluen. While Burke, who had not long before regained the leadership, lost his seat of Brennan, which was the safest CLP seat in the Territory, Carney easily held her seat with a swing in her favour in the vicinity of 5%.
