Jocelerme Privevert (French pronunciation”ZosleRm PRiveR” born on February 1, 1953) is a Haitian accountant, bureaucrat and was a former president- provisional of Haiti.
Following the release of his prison the former advisor was appointed to the president at the time Rene Preval. He then was a senator in the 2008 by- election for Nippes department however, he wasn’t elected. He was then, in the end elected Senator for the Nippes department during the general election of 2010 starting on 26 April 2011, and up to the time when he was reelected by the Senate to be the president of the Senate. He was also president of the Senate Committee on Economy and Finance.
Privert was elected by the Senate as the provisional President of Haiti on 14 February 2016, pending a general election in no more than 120 days.A general run-off election date was later agreed between Jovenel Moïse and Jude Célestin was originally scheduled to be held on 24 April 2016, but the Conseil Electoral Provisoire decided on 5 April 2016 to hold a new election in early October 2016.
Privert is accused of being involved of his involvement in the La Scierie massacre in Saint-Marc and detained on April 4th, 2004. According to Haitian groups that defend human rights, many people were killed between February and 2004 within the municipality of Saint-Marc which was an important opposition stronghold at the time. Jocelerme Privert was released following 26 months of imprisonment.
