Texts that are younger lead to Asia the dancing dervish, also known as the Yellow Dragon, or the no-play.
Still in GDR-times, a mythology of Thuringia – including geology, plant, and animal beings – was written in the volume “Thüringer Meer” (Thuringian Sea). One aspect of this book is the creative conflict between the Slavic immigration (Wends) and the western conquests (by the Merowingians). A response to the zeitgeist of GDR-times can be found in sharp-tongued epigrams.

Joachim Werneburg is the son of art-maker Walter Werneburg. From 1973 until 1977, the engineer studied electrical theory in Technische Universitat Ilmenau and was an active member of the circle of students who wrote. From 1977 until 1990, he lived a double life as engineer and poet at the microelectronics firm located in Erfurt. Following his participation in the Peaceful Revolution in Eastern Germany in 1997, he worked for an environmental organization and from 1997 until 2019, he was a government worker.
Werneburg keeps a journal of his work, with an excerpt from”Das Kupferbergwerk,” a book “Das Kupferbergwerk” (Copper Mine notes from 1977 until 1989). It is a reflection of his process for writing poetry and also the realities of living in an absolute state. This collection of “Notizen auf der Felswand” (Notes on the Rock’s Face) originate from the period that followed the turn of events during the period of Eastern Germany (1990 to 1995) and show the change in conditions of the author today, under the circumstances of a real capitalism.
By the end of the 1980th, free adaptations from the work of the Chinese poet Pe-lo-thien were written (Bai Juyi, 772–846, Tang dynasty). These are particularly characterized by bewitching images of nature combined with social critics. Werneburg recognized Pe-lo-thien as a kindred spirit and discovered comparable existential experiences (in: “Die Reise nach Südost”, Journey to South-East).
