Mier was chosen to the Houston Astros with the 21st overall selection of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft out of Bonita High School in La Verne, California, and agreed to the $1.358 million cash bonus. Mier got assigned to the rookie-advanced Greeneville Astros for the 2009 season. He recorded an .276 average in batting, with seven homers and 33 RBI (RBI). In 2010 Mier was part of his Class A Lexington Legends and scored .235 with two at-bats and 52 RBI in 130 games.
Mier started his 2010 season at Lexington but was later moved into the advanced-A Lancaster JetHawks. He played in 114 games during the season and was averaging .239 with seven hits and 52 RBI. Injury limited him to 51 games during the 2012 season in which he scored .286 with three homers and 27 RBI. After the season was over, Mier played 17 games with the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League. He hit .297 when playing for the Solar Sox, with 7 RBI. In 2013 Mier moved to the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks, but suffered a poor year both defensively and offensively, hitting just .194 with five homes runs, and 28 RBI and committing 20 errors. Mier started his 2013 season at Corpus Christi, and was promoted in mid-season to the Triple-A Oklahoma City RedHawks. In all, he played at 120 games, and scored .225 with four hits and 35 RBI. He played the whole 2015 season at Corpus Christi, batting .258 with 7 home runs as well as 56 RBI.
On April 10, 2018, Mier signed with the Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican Baseball League.
