Jin Matsubara (Song Yuan Ren , Matsubara Jin, born July 31st 1956) is a Japanese politician from Japan. It is one of his members of the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislative body). He was appointed chairman of the National Public Safety Commission, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety and Minister of State for the Abduction Issue. Matsubara was previously affiliated with the Party of Hope and the Democratic Party (the Democratic Party of Japan).

On the 27th of August 2012 Matsubara informed at a House of Councillors budget committee meeting that he could suggest to other ministers an update of the 1993 announcement by the then the Chief Cabinet Secretary Yohei Kono admitting the Imperial Japanese Army’s role in creating and operating “comfort stations” for troops who were forcibly recruited as comfort women as “no direct descriptions of forcible recruitment have been found in military and other Japanese official records obtained by the government.”

On the 15th of August on the 15th of August, 2012 Matsubara and minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Yuichiro Hata, became among the very first ministers in the Cabinet from the DPJ to go to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine on August 15 after the party took the throne in 2009. Matsubara visited the shrine to mark the 67th anniversary marking the ending of World War II despite requests from South Korea to refrain from visiting, and despite the Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda’s request to his cabinet members not to go there.
