He batted and threw right-handed.
In the 1999 season another prospect for catcher Hong Sung-heon was hired by the Bears following his graduation from college. His signing brought more fierce competition to the catcher’s starting position. In July of 1999, Jin was eventually traded to the Samsung Lions.
Upon Kim Dong-soo’s departure through free agency to the SK Wyverns in the winter of 2001, Jin earned the full-time position behind the plate for the Lions.
As the Lions’ No. 1 catcher, Jin led his team to the 2002, 2005 and 2006 Korean Series champions.
in 1998 Jin got a spot on the South Korea national baseball team who was awarded the gold medal at the Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Jin was granted an exemption from military service to win the gold medal together with other gold medalists, Park Chan-ho, Seo Jae-weong and Kim Byung-hyun.

The month of February was 1993. as a student in the Busan High School in Busan, South Korea, Jin was selected to the South Korea national baseball team as a high schooler. Jin was selected to participate at the 17th Asian Baseball Championship in Perth, Australia.
Jin was chosen to his fellow OB Bears with the first selection in the 2nd round of 1997’s KBO Draft. He joined into the club with high hopes however, he spent the first year of his Bears time as an auxiliary catcher playing in 95 games, not showing any signs of potential as a starter catcher.
In the 2000 season, the Lions signed All-Star veteran Kim Dong-soo and made Jin return to the backup catcher. But after Kim was put on the disabled list during the season, Jin was the starting catcher for most of 2000. In 2001, Kim came back from the injury, but Jin shared the starting position behind the plate with Kim without being the backup again.
