Cordero received a promotion to major leagues on the 1st in 2018, following his team the Nationals named the veteran relief pitcher Shawn Kelley for assignment. Cordero made his debut in the major leagues in August 2, with the Cincinnati Reds. He played the first few months of the season playing for the Nationals Class AAA affiliate known as The Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League in which he recorded an impressive 6.00 ERA, 1.73 WHIP 17-to-9 strikeout ratio to walk over 15 innings. On May 9, 2019 on May 9, 2019, the Nationals announced that they had signed infielder Gerardo Parra to an agreement for one year and then designated Cordero for assignment in order to allow room for Parra in their roster of 40 players.
The Toronto Blue Jays claimed Cordero off waivers on May 15, 2019, and assigned him to the Class AAA Buffalo Bisons of the International League. He was recalled on May 21, and designated for assignment on May 23.
In December of 2016 the Phillies concluded a trade deal in December 2016 with Washington Nationals, sending Cordero in exchange for minor league pitcher Mario Sanchez. Cordero began the 2017 season as a pitcher with the Class-AA Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. The Nationals placed him on assignment, and removed him from their 40-man roster the 31st day of July 2017 to allow to acquire the closer, Brandon Kintzler. After being sent outrighted to Harrisburg the following day, he concluded his season with an 6.84 ERA over 51 1/3 innings. He was then invited to take part in the Nationals spring training camp the next year.
