As manager, Platt’s initial assignment was to become the manager for Ballymena United for a season between 1984 and 1985, following which his time was spent at Coleraine and managed them for six seasons from 1985 until 1991. He was also manager in the year 1991. took on another short stint with Ballyclare, but this time it was Ballyclare only for one season in 1991-92.
For the 1992-93 season Platt was appointed to the post of the manager of Swedish club Assyriska within the Swedish First Division. He spent two seasons as Darlington’s manager. Darlington the first one in conjunction in conjunction with David Hodgson then the other in 1995-96. He then left the full-time job to take the job at Gateshead.
