Jim Dinning is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on December 4, 1952 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. James Francis Dinning (born December 4 1952) is a Canadian Progressive Conservative politician and businessman. He was a member of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly of Alberta (1986-1997) and is currently as a director on the board of several Canadian businesses. Dinning ran for the presidency of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives to replace Ralph Klein as Premier of Alberta. Dinning has raised more than 2 million dollars to support his leadership run, but was defeated by candidate for the leadership Ed Stelmach when party members decided to elect Klein’s successor on December 2nd in 2006. In June of 2010 Dinning was appointed the 12th Chancellor at the University of Calgary. Dinning serves as adviser to the Canadian Ecofiscal Commission.

Dinning was chairman of the Calgary Health Region from 1999 from 1999 to 2001. He was also a governor at the Banff Centre, and was also serving as director at Finning International, Shaw Communications and Canadian Policy Research Networks (CPRN), Canadian Policy Research Networks (CPRN) as well as the Alberta Energy Research Institute. Dinning was also chairperson of the Canadian Clean Power Coalition, comprising the largest power producers, including ATCO, Epcor, TransAlta, Luscar, SaskPower, and Nova Scotia Power.

In 2006, Dinning ran for leadership of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta party. Dinning ultimately lost the party election to Ed Stelmach as a result of a second ballot vote on December 2, 2006. During much of the campaign, he held at least a 20-point lead over his closest competitor and over a 40-point lead on Stelmach.

He was named a Member of the Order of Canada in 2015.

After his retirement from politics in 1997, the former senior vice-president was and then executive vice-president for TransAlta Corporation from August 1997 until December 2004.

After graduating from Western Canada High School in 1970, Dinning went on to get the Bachelor of Commerce honours degree from Queen’s University in 1974. He also obtained an Masters diploma in Public Administration from Queen’s in 1977.
