Pipher holds the position of Elisha Benjamin Andrews Professor of Mathematics at Brown University. She graduated with an B.A. at University of California, Los Angeles in 1979. She earned a B.A. from University of California, Los Angeles in 1979, and she earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from UCLA from 1985. She was under the guidance by John B. Garnett. The professor taught in The University of Chicago (1985-1990) prior to joining Brown in the year 1990. There, she was Chair for the Mathematics Department from 2005 to in 2008.
The year was 1996. Pipher together with Jeffrey Hoffstein, Daniel Lieman and Joseph Silverman, founded NTRU Cryptosystems, Inc. to promote their cryptographic algorithm including NTRUEncrypt, NTRUSign and NTRUEncrypt.
In 2017, she was elected to a two-year term as president of the American Mathematical Society, to begin in 2019.
