On January 23, 2011 Vegas took home the first PGA Tour event, the Bob Hope Classic, after winning against Tour veterans Bill Haas and Gary Woodland in a sudden death match. This was Vegas the fifth overall win with the PGA Tour and the second as a participant on the tour. This is the first win by an Venezuelan in an PGA Tour event; Vegas was able to gain an entry into the Masters and also a two-year exemption from the PGA Tour. His next race, Vegas placed in a tie-for third place at the Farmers Insurance Open, holding some of the lead in the final nine. He then climbed to a new career OWGR highest of 69th. Vegas is the only PGA Tour rookie to lead the FedEx Cup standings.
