Jewell Loyd (born on the 5th of October, 1993) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Perfumerias Avenida of Spain’s Liga Femenina de Baloncesto and the Seattle Storm of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was the first player selected during the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. She played in the NCAA basketball tournament in the NCAA tournament at Notre Dame.
Loyd was selected first all-time in the 2015 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. She played alongside veteran superstar points guard Sue Bird. Loyd was a role of a point guard before beginning her WNBA career, however due to Bird already playing as a point guard with Storm Storm, Loyd instead played as an offensive guard. Loyd had also been a backup point guard during her first season with the Storm. As Bird was absent for the last 7 games in the regular season in order to recover, Loyd was the starting point guard. Loyd played in 34 games and 23 starts in her debut season with the Storm. Her performance in the season earned her the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award, and she averaged 10.7 per game.
On July 20, 2018, Loyd scored a season-high 31 points in a 78–65 victory against the Connecticut Sun. In the 2018 season, Loyd was voted into the 2018 WNBA All-Star Game, making it her first career all-star appearance.
