Shepherd has been a part of Canada at different level of play. He first joined an Canadian team in his participation in the 2005 and 2007 World University Games, helping the team to win a shocking bronze medal at the latter competition. He was selected to the national team’s senior squad in the inaugural time during the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Shepherd was a player for Michigan during Michigan’s Big Ten Conference of the NCAA Division I, from 2005 to 2009. As as a senior, he coached Michigan to an second-round appearance at the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament.
Following the season, Shepherd signed with German second tier team Giro-Live Ballers Osnabrück. In March 2011 he signed with Skyliners Frankfurt in Germany where he averaged 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 15 games.
