The album was recorded by her at Paisley Park and produced by Tommy LiPuma, Ricky Peterson and Maurice White, the album was initially released only in France in the year 1991. It was later reissued in 1993.
She has recorded and toured with Prince, George Clinton, 10,000 Maniacs, and Mavis Staples. She appeared on the album Memorial Beach, recorded by the Norwegian group a-ha, performing backing vocals on the songs “Lie Down in Darkness” and “Move to Memphis”. Her most recent album is a 2006 collection of original and classic jazz selections called My Heart.
Bob Telson, the composer of The Gospel at Colonus, utilized Jevetta Steele as a vocalist for various soundtracks which he composed. Collaboration with Telson has made her the most well-known lead singer in the Telson-written track “Calling You” from the soundtrack to the film Bagdad Cafe. The track was nominated for the Academy Award. The track was released as her debut single, and was hugely popular in Europe as well as being ranked in the top 10 of Sweden and France in which she was particularly successful. The popularity in France resulted in an agreement with a record label there, and, in 1989, she released a second single, also recorded by Telson the song was called “I Will Remember”, that did not chart.
