Jerry Lee Owens (born February 16th 1981) was an ex- professional baseball player. He spent the majority during the year with the Triple A Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox affiliation) of the International League, but was called up and made his debut in the major leagues as a pinch runner September 11. His first appearance was on September 27, during a game during which he racked up two hits for his debut and made his debut as an official major leaguer.
Owens began the 2008 season on the 15-day disabled list following an MRI found a small injury to his adductor muscle in his right.
Owens was considered for the center field job vacated by Ken Griffey Jr. for the 2009 season, but the White Sox released him on May 2 after he batted .083 in 12 games. He then signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. Playing for the Mariners’ triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, He went on to lead the Rainiers in average with a .323 clip.
Owens played with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo of the Mexican Pacific League (Winter League) for four seasons, starting in 2013-14. The club won the league championship that year, with Owens playing a key role in the team’s success. He won the league Batting Title, impressing in his first year with a .361 average, 90 hits, 10 doubles, 4 triples, and 29 RBIs in 61 games played.
The spring training of the White Sox in 2006, Owens was competing against Brian Anderson for the job of center fielder. However, manager Ozzie Guillen said that Owens was unlikely to be given the job due to an injury to his shoulder a couple of years prior to. Owens was added to the White Sox’ extended 40-man roster, before being optioned into the International League with the Charlotte Knights. Owens demonstrated his growth when stealing bases in 2006, taking 40 bases while being stopped only 12 times.

Owens has graduated from Hart High School in California in the state of California, where he was a wide receiver for the team that won the championship together with NFL quarterback Kyle Boller. While in high school, Jerry was named to many All-America teams as well as an outstanding player. Owens was a student at his first school at the University of California, Los Angeles and later moved into The Master’s College in California after a number of injuries and a shocking. In The Master’s College, he was named the Small College All-American Outfielder for 2003. He was then chosen for his team the Montreal Expos in the 2nd Round (57th overall) of the amateur 2003 entry draft.
In the off-season, as there was a change in the organization, when the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals, Owens was traded to Alex Escobar, a prospect from the Chicago White Sox. It came as no surprise that In 2005 Owens received a promotion to Double-A for the Birmingham Barons of the Southern League. Owens enjoyed a spectacular season, earning the Southern League All-Star outfielder and was also the league’s top player in average of batting.
In November 2009, the Washington Nationals signed Owens to a Minor League contract with an invitation to 2010 Spring training and he got a chance to compete for a roster spot. He did not play in the 2010 season.
