After having left De Graafschap, Drost moved into amateur football, and was a part of Hoofdklasse club CSV Apeldoorn, only to quit for the childhood club DOS Kampen in winter 2015.

Vitesse was eventually able to take on Drost in the end, and Drost was offered an extension of four years, which ran to mid-2013. He then loaned him for a season to FC Zwolle for half a season in the year 2011. The club moved him into De Graafschap in 2012, however, he only played 3 games in a season plagued by injuries and was let go from the team in early April of 2013.

Drost began his career at DOS Kampen and later joined the young players from Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer. He was a part of the young players of Go Ahead Eagles before being sought out at the end of 2001 for SC Heerenveen. After three years at the academy for youth at SC Heerenveen, he was made a member of his first squad in the year 2004. Drost transferred on loan to N.E.C. In January of 2008, Drost was loaned to N.E.C. In January 2008, after a half-year period and five league games during the season with NEC in January 2008, he was returned to Heerenveen in January 2008, and was again released again, but this time, to Vitesse in July of 2008.

Drost represented his country the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands.
