He won 19 times as an amateur and by the end of 1993, he was officially signed by Cees Priem, the TVM-Bison Kit. Blijlevens had good results during his early years, and was picked in 1995 to compete in his way through the Tour de France, where he took the stage 5. Blijlevens is not a great climber, quit the race just before the Alps.
As of 1999 Blijlevens took on the jersey of pink as the leader of the general class in the Giro d’Italia, after winning the third stage. Following his performance in 1998 they were the only TVM team was not invited to in 1999’s Tour de France. The team of cyclists from TVM began a legal process to force Tour organizers to invite them, but they failed. In the course of that season, Blijlevens quit TVM to join Team Polti.
At the end of 2001, Blijlevens could not find a new team, and made plans to ride as an amateur again, but finally he signed a contract for one year at Domo–Farm Frites. Blijlevens rode for a low base salary, with bonuses for victories. After a year full of injuries, Blijlevens was not given a contract for 2003, and switched to the BankGiroLoterij–Batavus team.
In 2001, Blijlevens rode the Giro d’Italia, where the Italian police raided his team’s hotel, but no forbidden products were found. As a protest against this treatment, the cyclists refused to start the eighteenth stage.
The year 1996 was the first time Blijlevens was once again the winner of a stage of the Tour de France. He placed second behind Erik Zabel in the sixth stage of the Tour de France, but after Zabel was disqualified by the judges due to irregular sprinting winning, the stage was awarded to Blijlevens. In 1998, Blijlevens took the victory in his fourth race in the Tour. This Tour was rife with doping accusations, including towards the TVM team. As shortly as the race crossed the border between France and Switzerland, Blijlevens had to quit the race in protest of the treatment by authorities from French police.

Jeroen Johannes Hendrikus Bijlevens (born the 29th of December in 1971) is a retired road cyclist from the Netherlands who was a professional cyclist from 1994 until 2004. He is now the director of sport for the UCI Women’s Team CCC Liv as well as in the role of a cycling commentator for Eurosport Netherlands.
Nicknamed Jerommeke He is one of the Netherlands’ most successful sprinters during the 1990s, winning a total of 11 wins on the stage across three Grand Tours (Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana and Giro d’Italia). He was the winner of a total of 74 races during the course of his career.
In 2000, Blijlevens invested in his climbing-abilities, but this did not work out as planned, and Blijlevens was not as successful as before. He failed to win a stage in the Tour de France, and was even disqualified after finishing the last stage for seeking out and assaulting Bobby Julich. When Polti stopped as a sponsor at the end of the year, Blijlevens signed for Lotto–Adecco for 2001.
