Jatuporn Prompan is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 5, 1965 in Surat Thani Province, Thailand. Jatuporn Prompan (Thai: cchtuphr Phrhmphanthu ; RTS: Chatuphon Phromphan ; Thai pronunciation”tca?tu?pho:n Phromphan” born on 5 October 1965) is a Thai politician and activist. He is among the main members for the National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), often referred to by”the “Red Shirts”, and a former member of the Parliament for the Pheu Thai Party. In July 2017, he was handed an imprisonment sentence of one year for defamation.

Jatuporn was the leader of the Red-shirts during the huge 2010 Thai political protests that took control of the city’s downtown Bangkok that culminated into violence between the months of April and May. Jatuporn, Nattawut Saikua and other Red-Shirt leaders surrendered before police to stop further violence following the military’s police crackdown on May 19th, 2010.

Jatuporn, along with Nisit Sinthuprai, was jailed on terrorism charges for alleged involvement in the shooting of Army Major General “Seh Daeng” Khattiya Sawasdipol, after bail was denied on 12 May 2011.

In November 2011, the Election Commission reconsidered its approval, forwarding the matter to the Constitutional Court. On 18 May 2012, the court ruled that Jatuporn was ineligible.

Jatuporn became a part of his membership in the Palang Dharma Party in 1996 however, he switched to Thaksin Shinawatra’s newly formed Thai Rak Thai Party two years afterward. Following the dissolution of the Thai Rak Thai Party for voting fraud, he entered the race as a candidate for the People’s Power Party in the 2007 parliamentary elections. However The Supreme Court ruled that the People’s Power Party was simply an intermediary for the banned TRT. Jatuporn was a member of Pheu Thai Party. Pheu Thai Party and retained his position as an MP. He was also one of the key leaders of the Thaksin-friendly National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), often referred to in”the “Red Shirts”.

Jatuporn was born in Amphoe Ban Na San, Surat Thani Province to Chuan Prompan and his wife Nuam Buakaew. When he was 8 years old, Jatuporn went to live with his brother who was Nakhon Si Thammarat. After the death of his father in 1977, he was a guest in the Bangkok’s Wat Bowonniwet temple, where his brother was an Buddhist monk. He went through vocational school, which was in construction of buildings, and later offered to instruct in a remote mountainous area close to Chiang Mai. Then he returned to Bangkok three years later and pursued a degree in political science at the open admittance Ramkhamhaeng University, eventually graduating with an undergraduate degree. Jatuporn was married, and has 3 daughters.

In the pro-democracy revolt after troops of the government secured the region surrounding Phan Fa Bridge and the Democracy Monument, Jatuporn joined protesters in rallies in Ramkhamhaeng University, eventually resulting in the military-backed prime minister Suchinda Krayoon’s resignation, on 24 May 1992.

Jatuporn, number 8 on the Pheu Thai party list candidates, was unable to vote in the general election on 3 July. This disqualified him from serving as a Member of Parliament. However, when the House of Representatives was convoked, the Election Commission (EC) ignored this and endorsed Jatuporn’s status as a party list MP, and he was released on bail on 2 August 2011.
