Jannis Zamanduridis, born March 18, 1966, Chemnitz (East Germany), is a former amateur German Greco Roman wrestler who competed in men’s welterweight. Zamanduridis is considered one of Germany’s most promising and successful wrestlers. He won two medals at the World Championships (1990-1995) in the 68kg division. However, he took a short hiatus to concentrate on his coaching staff for Germany’s wrestling team. In 2003 Zamanduridis unexpectedly resigned from his imminent retirement to represent Germany at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Zamanduridis was a full-time wrestler in the KSV Kollerbach wrestling club under Frank Hartmann throughout his sporting career.
Zamanduridis declared in December 2002 that he was retiring to wrestle again. He lost to Armen Vardanyan, from Ukraine, in the quarterfinal match at the 2003 World Wrestling Championships, Creteil, France. Zamanduridis was awarded a ticket to the first Olympics, and he was officially selected for the German Olympic team. He landed in the seventh place of the final rankings.
In January 2013, Zamanduridis was appointed as the national sports director for the German Wrestling Federation.
In 1996, Zamanduridis was an assistant coach for the German wrestling team. He took a year off to complete his training before he returned to wrestling. After his first Olympic Games, Zamanduridis was back in the arena as an assistant coach for the German wrestling team. He then became a national coach.

His Greek-born parents were born in Chemnitz. Zamanduridis, along with his family, fled East Germany shortly before the fall the Berlin Wall. After moving to Puttlingen, in Saarbrucken where he began his career as a wrestler for KSV Kollerbach. His first major sporting appearance was at the 1990 World Wrestling Championships, Ostia, Italy. Zamanduridis won a silver medal for the 68-kg section, defeating Islam Dugushiev, a former Soviet Union wrestler.
Zamanduridis has maintained a remarkable record of top-three finishes at the German Grand Prix and won a bronze medal for the same category at 1995 World Wrestling Championships. He also attempted to qualify for the 1992 Summer Olympics but was turned down. After his bronze medal victory at the World Championships, Zamanduridis took a brief break from the sport in order to concentrate on his career as a full time coach for the German wrestling team.
At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Zamanduridis qualified for the German squad, as a 38-year-old veteran, in the men’s 66 kg class. He lost his opening match 2–3 to Kazakhstan’s Mkhitar Manukyan, but pulled himself into a powerful 5–2 lead to thrash U.S. wrestler Oscar Wood in his second bout. When Zamanduridis faced off against Greece’s Konstantinos Arkoudeas in front of a massive home crowd inside Ano Liossa Olympic Hall, he tried to throw the Greek in the opening minute, but could not hold him tighter inside the mat in overtime, and lost the match with another 2–3 sudden death decision. Zamanduridis finished third in the preliminary competition and ninth overall; he did not advance to the quarterfinals. Two wrestlers were disqualified by a forfeit in a special consolation round so Zamanduridis’ overall rank was upgraded to seventh.
