Stander returned to George at the end of 2013 to join the SWD Eagles. He played six times for them in the 2014 Vodacom Cup competition. Stander was on the bench and his team lost to Griquas in Kimberley by a score of 15-84.

He made one appearances for the SWD Eagles during the 2014 Currie Cup qualification tournament, in a 33–31 victory against the Border Bulldogs in East London. SWD finished in fourth spot on the log, failing to qualify for the 2014 Currie Cup Premier Division and instead remaining in the First Division; Stander made one appearance in this competition, playing off the bench in a 24–35 defeat to the Boland Cavaliers. Still eligible to play at Under-21 level, he also started five of the SWD U21s matches during the 2014 Under-21 Provincial Championship. He helped them reach the title play-offs and started their 40–33 semi-final victory against Boland U21 in Wellington. However, he could not prevent them losing 3–46 to Eastern Province U21 in the final in Welkom.

Stander, who had just finished high school, moved to Johannesburg to attend the Golden Lions academy before the 2012 season. Stander was present in thirteen matches of the Golden Lions Under-19 Provincial Championship 2012. He scored one try in George against his old side, the SWD Eagles. In Johannesburg’s 46-5 win in George, he also scored a hat trick in the return leg. The final score was 83-3. The Golden Lions U19s ended the season in second place on the log, qualifying for the title play offs. Stander was substituted in the semi-final with his team losing 14-24 in Stellenbosch to Western Province U19.
