Her birth came just one year later. Luu attended Haley Elementary School and Blackhawk Middle School during her childhood. Luu attended Snider High School where she was awarded first place for a speech she wrote for ‘Project XL,’ an Indiana competition sponsored Farm Bureau and the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Luu was the anchor of the school’s weekly television program, Panther’s Pause. She also graduated as valedictorian at Snider High School after being named “Most Likely To Be the First Woman President” by the school yearbook.

In 2005, she announced that she was moving to Toronto, Ontario to host CANOE Live, Sun TV’s six-o clock current affairs program. It began airing in April 2006. In April 2006, she moved to Toronto just before the launch of CANOE Live. She was also the first Vietnamese television news anchor to be a Toronto anchor. Luu left CANOE Live as host in October 2009.

Luu was instrumental in organizing ‘Pop Filter’, an art installation and event. After it was a success, Luu and Matt Stuart created ‘City Prototype’ to celebrate creativity and ideas in Fort Wayne’s economic growth. The event inspired students and recent graduates to share their visions for the city’s future. She was also awarded the Fort Wayne Business Journal’s 2004 Future 40 Award, which recognizes individuals who have achieved professional excellence.

Janette N. Luu, a Vietnamese-American broadcaster, was born March 18, 1976. She was Toronto’s first Vietnamese TV news anchor, hosting CANOE Live on Sun TV from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, until October 2009.

Luu’s parents had high expectations of her, including a medical degree. Since she was a child, she had always wanted to become a doctor. She enrolled at the University of Michigan and completed a pre-med dual major. After graduating in 1998, she decided that she didn’t want to pursue a career as a doctor.

In 2005 Luu and Matt Stuart won a $25,000 award in Visa’s “Ideas Happen” contest for her concept of bringing different religious persuasions together. Titled “Project Inspire” her idea seeks to “provide understanding and to show connections between all religions”. Only 12 individuals were chosen for awards out of 19,000 entries. Her work within the community was recognized when she became the cover story for the premiere issue of Fort Wayne Woman.
