Janet Cobbs, a Canadian/American volleyball coach was born February 22, 1967. She was an All-American at North Dakota State University, and she won a bronze medal for the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Cobbs was part of the U.S. National Team from 1989 to 1994. At the 1992 Summer Olympics, she won the bronze medal for the U.S. She was named MVP of the 1992 Hong Kong Cup.

Cobbs was a professional player for the Minnesota Monarchs in 1988-89, Ceramica Magica in 1993-94 and Vakifbank in 1996-97.

Cobbs was a Concordia Academy High School student, where she played softball, volleyball, and basketball. In volleyball and basketball, she was twice on the all-state team. She led the volleyball team to the Class A championship in 1984. She was the Metro Basketball Player-of-the Year in 1985.

Cobbs was a North Dakota State University volleyball player from 1985 to 1988. In 1986, Cobbs was second-team All-American and in 1987 she was first-team All-American. Cobbs was the Bison’s 1988 leader, leading them to a record of 43-3 and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance. Cobbs was again named to the All- American First Team and was named Division II Player of Year. In 1988-89, she was named the Division II Female Athlete-of-the-Year and won the Honda- Broderick Trophy. Cobbs holds nine school records at NDSU, including the most career kills (2.091) and single-season kills (739). In 2003, she was inducted into North Dakota State University Hall of Fame.

Cobbs was an assistant coach for North Dakota State and the University of Wisconsin–River Falls.
