Jane Shin is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 7, 1980 in South Korea, Canada. Shin was a student of genetics and cell biology at University of British Columbia for many years, but did not earn an undergraduate degree. Shin completed a doctorate of medicine at Spartan Health Sciences University, Vieux Fort, St. Lucia in 2007, a recognized institution by the B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons and Medical Council of Canada. Shin did clinical rotations at the University of Edinburgh, Dalhousie University and John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital during medical school. Shin’s research at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne resulted in two publications co-authored on chronic fatigue syndrome.
Shin declared in late 2016 that she would not be running for the 2017 provincial election. The BC NDP nominated Katrina Chen (a Burnaby school trustee) and the BC Liberals nominated Steve Darling.
Shin beat Ken Kramer, the Liberal candidate who succeeded Harry Bloy, who held the riding for 12 year, with 44.26% votes. Kramer’s 40.59% was defeated by Darwin Burns, the Green Party candidate, with only 8.23%. Due to a paper glitch, Christine Clark, the Conservative candidate, was unaffiliated and received just 6.92%. Shin’s victory in the election and the confusion that followed earned Clark the title of 2013 Newsmaker of the year from Burnaby Now.
