Van der Rassel did not compete in as many Pro Tour events in 2007, opting to play in tournaments closer home, including the Antwerp Darts Trophy, where he lost against James Wade in 32. To qualify for the 2008 World Championship, he won four matches and advanced to the Alexandra Palace tournament. He beat Colin Lloyd, the former world number one, in the first round. Denis Ovens won the second round. Then, he lost to Peter Manley, the three-time World Championship runner up in the final 16.

Van der Rassel rejoined the British Darts Organisation in 2010 due to lack of sponsorship funds. And stopped playing in 2012.

Van der Rassel won the Primus Masters title in November 2006. Although the top players of the PDC were not present, he defeated Andy Smith from England, four other Dutchmen, and two Belgians to win the title. He was eliminated in the qualifiers of the 2007 World Championships a week later.

In 2002, he began his darts career on the BDO circuit. He reached the quarter- finals of the Dutch Open 2003. He reached the final 16 of the Winmau World Masters 2003 and lost to Ritchie Buckle in his first match.
