Stirling was made a consultant for the Russian Basketball Federation after the 2008 Olympics. Stirling has been helping Port Adelaide Power with their Leadership Program since 2010. Basketball Australia named Stirling Manager of the Australian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Program’s national program in November 2010. Stirling was made a Member of Australia’s Order of Merit (AM) in 2008 to acknowledge her contributions to sport as a coach, player, and contributor to professional and community development.
Stirling was a national coach and won a bronze medal in the 2002 World Championships. The Opals won a silver medal at Athens’ 2004 Olympics, and went on to win gold at Melbourne’s 2006 Commonwealth Games, the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Brazil, and silver at Beijing Olympics 2008. Stirling is Australia’s most successful basketball coach.

Stirling was a member of the Australia women’s basketball team in the 1970s. She also competed for Australia in the 1975 World Championship, held in Colombia. Stirling was a North Adelaide player in the Women’s National Basketball League, (WNBL).
Stirling retired in 1991 and went on to be a successful basketball coach. Stirling guided Adelaide Lightning to 12 consecutive Women’s National Basketball League finals appearances (WNBL), between 1993 and 2004, and five consecutive Grand Final appearances, resulting in four Championships. In 1993, Stirling was named WNBL Coach Of The Year. Stirling was an assistant coach for the Opals from 1994 to 2001. She became the Opals’ head coach in 2001. This marked the first time that an Australian former player and a woman had ever been in charge of the Opals. Stirling left the Lightning in 2004 to devote her full-time coaching efforts to the Opals.
In 2013, Stirling was elected to the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame, in 2015.
