Harvey was known as Bravedart during his matches, a play on Braveheart’s lead character in the movie Braveheart. Harvey would often come on stage while the song “The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond” was being played, as darts introduced entrance tunes to its players in the 1990s.
Harvey is currently fighting throat cancer. Harvey had surgery on his throat to remove a tumor and his voice box was removed.
He has been to the quarter finals at the World Championship in 2001, and in the World Matchplay quarter finals in 2004. However, his ranking has declined over the years. He was ranked 48th in the world at the start of 2007, but he failed to qualify for his first World Championship. He won four matches in 2008 PDC World Darts Championship qualifying events before losing to Jacko Barry at the last hurdle. This resulted him falling to 73rd place in the PDC Order of Merit. He competed in nine PDC Pro Tour events that were not televised in 2007. However, he only received PS300 in prize money. His best performance was his 32nd. Harvey now ranks 129th in the PDC Order of Merit.

He made his World Championship debut at 1992’s World Championship. He was also one of the original players to start the Professional Darts Corporation, now known as the World Darts Council (WDC), in 1993. He played at every PDC World Championship from 1994 through 2006.
1996 at Circus Tavern was his best performance. He reached the semi-finals of the World Championship, but lost to Dennis Priestley 1-5. He lost 9-13 to Peter Evison, the eventual World Matchplay champion, later that year. Although he did not reach the final of any major PDC tournaments he won the Antwerp Open as well as the Scottish Masters. He was a popular player on the circuit for his entire career.
In 2011 Harvey returned to the BDO and plays just Scottish events.
