He was born to Alhaji Usman Maikwato Jibril and Hajiya Fatima Ibrahim. His father, Malan Jibril, was the eldest son of Nasarawa’s eighth Emir of Nasarawa, Umaru Maje Haji. He is the great-grandson of Sarki Umaru Maje Haji and consequently a direct descendant from Umaru Makama Dogo who founded the Nasarawa Emirate.

In October of 2015 He was named on the ministerial list candidates to be part of the Buhari Administration. After having been screened by National Assembly, he was appointed Minister of State in charge of Environment on November 11,

2015. He was in office until December 2018.

After receiving their Secondary School Certificate, he was offered the opportunity to instruct in the Nasarawa Central Secondary School. Then, after completing the BSc diploma, he began his compulsory young adult service in the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State as an instructor in reading maps. The year 1984 saw him was a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa and later became a part of an organization called the Plateau State Ministry of Education in which he was assigned into New Karshi as a teacher. The year 1985 saw him moved his duties in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja where he continued his teaching career at the Government Secondary School, Kuje in Abuja for two years. After earning his master’s at the end of 1990 Jibril quit teaching and became a part of in the Department of Land, Planning and Survey of the FCT as an Land Officer. His energy, intelligence and humour made him an essential person when he was appointed secretary of the Committee on Abuja Plan, which is the committee that collects all information and data regarding the land area and allotted lots within and around the FCT, Abuja. He spent a total of more than 25 years working as Land Official in the FCT. As a specialist in land reform He was the Deputy Director of Abuja Development Control and as the Director of the Land Administration Department of the FCT. Then, Alhaji Jibril took his service to the Nasarawa State Geographic Information System (NAGIS) in which he served in several post.

Ibrahim Usman Jibril (born January 27 1958) is an Nigerian tradition-based ruler as well as administrator. Jibril is currently the 12th Emir of the Nasarawa Emirate and was the Minister of State for Environment between 2015 and 2018 , under the presidency of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

His schooling followed the Muslim traditional system of Koranic studies, which he started in the palace’s Koranic school under the guidance by Mallam Baba and later Mallam Jibril Jatau of the Bakin Kogi quarters. The primary school he attended was Nasarawa Central Primary School. Nasarawa Central Secondary School prior to moving into Government Secondary School in Nasarawa. From 1976 until 1978, he attended the School of Preliminary Studies, Yola in Adamawa State. In the years 1980-83, he enrolled for a year at Bayero University Kano where he received an undergraduate degree in Geography and Education. His brilliance and insatiable desire for knowledge prompted him to earn a master’s diploma from the field of Land Resource and Administration from Bayero University Kano in 1990.

Following the death of Emir Hassan Ahmad II, Wambai(Prince) Ibrahim Jibril was chosen as the new Emir of Nasarawa by the Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs and on 7 December 2018, he was appointed Emir of Nasarawa in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State by the state governor, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
