Paisley did not finish his MSSc degree during the summer period of graduation because he had overwritten the word count in his dissertation. He was instead awarded the degree during the winter months of 1994. In 1994, it was also the final year that Queen’s University Belfast played the British national song. Paisley protested by playing the anthem onto an audio recorder during his winter graduation. This caused significant disturbance.
