Clarkin was selected by the New York Yankees 33rd in the 2013 MLB Draft from James Madison High School, San Diego, California. The Yankees signed Clarkin with a $1,650,000.100 slot-money contract on June 17, 2013. That season, he made his professional debut with the GCL Yankees. He pitched five innings and had a 10.80 ERA. He was a 2014 player for the Charleston RiverDogs, where he pounded to a record of 3-3 and 3.21 ERA over 16 games (15 starts), while also playing one game with the Tampa Yankees at season’s end.
