Hugh Lawrence Gaffney, a politician from the Scottish Labour Party, was born 10 August 1963. From 2017 to 2019, he was Member of Parliament (MP), for Coatbridge and Chryston. From 2017 to July 2019, he was also a North Lanarkshire Council local government councillor.
Gaffney apologized in February 2018 and was forced by his party to attend equality training. This was after a media exposé of homophobic and racist remarks he made at Burns’ dinner.
Gaffney was elected in 2017 to the North Lanarkshire Council, representing the Thorniewood Ward. He was elected Labour candidate for Coatbridge Chryston and Bellshill in the 2017 general election. This defeats Phil Boswell, the incumbent Scottish National Party MP.
