He was the director of Centre on Asia and Globalisation and Lee Foundation Professor on US/China Relations. Huang also worked as an analyst at Xinhua News Agency. He is also the author of many books, including Factionalism and Chinese Communist Politics which was awarded the Masayoshi Ohira memorial Prize in 2002.
