Howard Bach, a Vietnamese-American male badminton players from the United States was born 22 February 1979. He was the 2005 World Champion in the Men’s Doubles with Tony Gunawan.

Bob Malaythong, his partner in Badminton at Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, helped him reach the quarterfinals, which was the highest American achievement. They were defeated by Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun, a Chinese couple.

Bach and Tony Gunawan competed in the 2012 London Olympics. They were eliminated during the pool play.

From a modest 13th seeded position Howard Bach partnered with Tony Gunawan to win the final of the men’s doubles 15-11, 10-15, 15-11, against the Indonesian pair, Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto. Thus winning the United States’s first ever gold at the World Championships.

Howard Bach was born in Vietnam. He arrived in the U.S. when he was two years old. His father, Cam Sen Bach, immigrated to San Francisco in 1982 with his family. He attended Marina Middle School from 1991-1993. Howard Bach was five years old when his father took him to the Golden Gate YMCA, San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. Howard Bach was coached in badminton by his father here for the next 11 years. Bach was 16 years old when he began to play badminton. He was mentored and coached by Dick Ng, the USA coach of year. He moved to Colorado Springs at age 16 to train at the U.S. Olympic Site.

Bach participated in badminton in the 2004 Summer Olympics with his partner Kevin Han. They beat Stewart Carson and Dorian James of South Africa in round one, and were then defeated by Jens Eriksen (Denmark) and Martin Lundgaard Hansen (Denmark) in round 16.

The BWF Superseries has two levels: Superseries and Superseries Premier. A season of Superseries features twelve tournaments around the world, introduced in 2011, with successful players invited to the Superseries Finals held at the year end.
