Hou Kok Chung is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 22, 1963 in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Dato’ Dr. Hou Kok Chung, (Chinese: He Guo Zhong – born 22 February 1963), is a Malaysian politician who belongs to the Malaysian Chinese Association of the opposition Barisan National coalition.

Kok Chung was the Barisan Nasional candidate (BN) in the 12th Malaysian general elections. He won the Kluang (P.152), parliamentary constituency in Kluang. Kok Chung won the 12th General Election and was elected deputy minister for Higher Education within the newly formed Malaysian Cabinet.

He was previously one of the vice-presidents for MCA (2013-2018). He secured the second most votes in the party election on 21 December 2013. Kok Chung, a second term senator in the Senate of Malaysia, was appointed in 2014. He will retire in 2020.

Kok Chung graduated from University of Malaya (UM) and is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), both from the SOAS, University of London. As a lecturer at UM, he moved up to Head of East Asia Studies, then became an associate professor. He was also the head of the Institute for China Studies at the university, where he retired early to participate in the 12th Malaysian General Election.

Kok Chung contested Kluang’s constituency again in the 13th Malaysian general elections of 2013. However, Liew Chin Tong, a Democratic Action Party (DAP), defeated him. Kok Chung was a candidate for the Tebrau constituency in Johor (P.158), but lost to Pakatan Harapan’s Choong Shiau Yoon.

Kok Chung’s academic passion saw him appointed into Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Council as the deputy chairman; council member of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC); Guest Professor to Xiamen University; and an adjunct professor of UTAR.
