Hong Hei-kyung is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on July 4, 1959 in Hongcheon, Gangwon, South Korea. Hong HeiKyung, born July 4, 1959, is an American-South Korean operatic lyric soprano.

While the Met has been her main stage ever since her debut, she started to sing in Europe after having her third child. She has performed at many opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London (as Mimi, Liu), Vienna State Opera, Munich (as Mimi), Bavarian State Opera, Munich (as Mimi), Opera Bastille, Paris (as Liu and Countess Almaviva), Micaela In Carmen), Verona Arena, Rome Opera House (as Liu). She made her debut on January 28th 2003 at La Scala, Milan, as Musetta in La boheme. She was Liu in Turandot (January 2004, and Mimi (June 2005) when she returned to La Scala.

2008. Having cancelled her whole schedule at the time of his diagnosis to care for him, she was away from the stage for two years in mourning. She returned to the stage of the Met as Violetta in La traviata on April 13, 2010. She currently lives in Queens, New York, with her three children.

She was a 1982 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions winner and made her Metropolitan Opera debut on November 17, 1984 as Servilia in Mozart’s opera La clemenza de Tito. She began with minor roles like the Celestial Voice and Virgin in Samson, but she was soon able to perform a major role at the Met, Mimi in La boheme, on January 7, 1987. She has steadily moved up to main roles, such as Susanna, Adina, and Gilda, in Le nozze di Figaro. She has been a more lyric actress since the mid-1990s, including Liu in Turandot or Countess Almaviva at Le nozze di Figaro.

She sang professionally for the very first time in 1981 when Gian Carlo Menotti, an Italian composer, invited her to sing at the Spoleto Festival, which was held in Italy and Charleston, South Carolina. She initially used “Suzanne Hong” as her stage name, but Kurt Adler from Juilliard suggested that she use a name that could be easily pronounced by English speakers. Hong changed her name to “Suzanne Hong” after the Spoleto Festival. She said that her Juilliard School of Music friends convinced her to use her Korean name.

Hong was born in Gangwon in South Korea and attended Yea Won Music School, Seoul. At the age of 15, she was able to travel alone to the United States to study at the Juilliard School of Music and the American Opera Center. She was also a part of several productions at the American Opera Center while she was at Juilliard. She also attended master classes with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Walter Legge at the Juilliard School of Music. Shirlee Emmons taught her voice privately. She was among four young singers who were invited to Herbert von Karajan’s classes in opera at the 1983 Salzburg Festival.

On June 4, 2006, she sang Violetta in La traviata at the Met, becoming the first Asian soprano to sing the role at the Met. And on March 1, 2007, she sang Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Met for the first time. According to the Metropolitan Opera homepage, through September 2015, her most frequently sung role at the Met has been Mimì in La bohème (64 performances), followed by Micaëla in Carmen (35 performances), Liù in Turandot (33 performances) and Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro (30 performances).
