Hone Harawira is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 6, 1955 in Whangarei, New Zealand. Harawira was the son of John Puriri Harawira, and Titewhai Harawira. He was born in Whangarei on January 6, 1955. He was born in West Auckland, where he attended St Stephen’s School (a boarding school for Maori boys) and the University of Auckland. His mother, Maori Marsden and Syd Jackson are some of the people he credits for instilling him with “the need to strength, commitment and wisdom.” His mother is from Ngati Hau and Ngati Hine tribes. His father is from Te Aupouri, Ngapuhi, and Ngati Whatua. He is also part Pakeha. He married Hilda Halkyard, a Ngati Haua subtribe of Te Rarawa.

After his return to Europe in November 2009, Hawawira received a request to repay travel expenses. He had skipped a taxpayer-funded conference held in Brussels in order to visit Paris. “How many times will I ever travel to Europe in my life?” I decided to go ahead and say, “F it! He said, “I’m off to Paris.” Harawira replied to Buddy Mikaere, an ex-director of the Waitangi Tribunal, by saying “Gee Buddy. Do you believe that white man bullshit also?” You want me to join their puritanical bullshit ….? White motherfers have been raping and ripping off our lands for centuries. OK?”. Harawira’s email was viewed as racist by the media, other members and members of parliament, and severely criticised by members of the public.

On 31 July 2010 Harawira told The New Zealand Herald he “wouldn’t feel comfortable” if one of his children came home with a Pākehā partner, but he asked whether “all Pākehās would be happy with their daughters coming home with a Māori boy? The answer is they wouldn’t.” He was asked, since some of his whānau have dated Pacific Islanders and he didn’t have an issue with it, “does that make him prejudiced?” He said “Probably, but how many people don’t have prejudices?”

Harawira was returned to Parliament as the Member for Te Tai Tokerau at the general election held on 26 November 2011.

Harawira posted a Facebook post in September 2012 referring to Maori MPs as prime minister John Keys’ “little house niggers”. This was in response to Key refusing National party members to attend a water rights hui. He said, “Time John Key realized a few home truths such as (1) he can tell the little house niggers what he should do, but (2) we don’t care a sh*t for his opinions or him.” Pita Sharples, a party leader, was moved to attend the hui after this comment. Rawdon Christie interviewed Harawira about his statement, stating that New Zealand needed to “mature” and that he wouldn’t be the first or last person to use the n–word in the country. Harawira had used the n’word before in an address to this chamber on 6/11/2007. He stated that the United States military operated under the motto “The best Indian is dead Indian” and that the current American-led War on Terror was conducted under the new motto “The good sandnigger is dead sandnigger”.
