Holger Apfel, born 29 December 1970, is a German politician and leader of the far-right National Democratic Party of Germany. He served as the NPD’s chief executive from 2011 to 2013. Between 2004 and 2014, he was a member the Saxon Parliament and served as chairman of NPD parliamentary groups and a member the presidium.
He was a candidate in the constituency Kamenz, Hoyerswerda, and Grossenhain for the 2005 federal election and received 6.7%.
On 13 November 2011, he was elected leader of the NPD at the national level.
On 19 December 2013, he resigned with immediate effect from his leadership positions at both the national and the state level. Media outlets initially reported that Apfel was in poor health and suffering from “burnout syndrome”.
Apfel led the NPD in Saxony, which won 9.2% of the popular vote on 19 September 2004 and 12 seats in the Landtag to its greatest electoral success. He was elected leader of the party’s parliamentary section.

Apfel has a long history with activism for the NPD. He started his activism in the 1980s as he was involved in NPD’s youth organization. Between 2000 and 2009, he was deputy chairman at national level and vice chairman at state level. He was the chairman of Saxony’s NPD between 2009 and 2011.

The NPD parliamentary group had previously demanded that a moment of silence be held for the victims of the bombing of Dresden instead. In the ensuing parliamentary debate Apfel called the Allies of World War II “mass murderers” and accused the British of having waged a “holocaust” against Germans.
