Hitendra Nath Goswami is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 1, 1959 in Jorhat, India. Hitendra Nath Goswami, the sixth of eight siblings of Late ShrinathDeva Goswami or Late Smt. Rambha Goswami was the Satradhikar in Madhu-Mishra Satra. He was also a prominent Jorhat citizen. His father, a Gold Medalist of University of Calcutta, was the founder of three educational institutions namely -i), Deepling Higher Secondary school, Sibsagar District iii), Dhekial Higher Secondary school, Golaghat District and iii), Borbheta Primary School and High School at Jorhat District. He retired as a Sugarcane Inspector from the Agricultural Department in 1965. Hiten Goswami was born on the 1st of January 1959. He attended Borbheta School, and then moved to Jorhat Govt. Boys’ H.S. and M.P. High school. He was a star in H.S.S.L.C at J.B.College in Jorhat and he went on to St. Edmunds College in Shillong in his final year. He also founded the North East Region Student Union, which later became the North East Region Students’s Union. He was an active participant in the Assam Movement. Due to his agitational activities to protest illegal immigration and the atrocities of Indian Army on local people, he was taken to Silchar Jail or Tihar Jail by the N.S.A. Although he lost a few academic year, he was able to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees (1985) in Chemistry with 1st class from Gauhati University. After witnessing the abuses of law during the Assam Movement, and feeling the need for justice, he obtained his LLB degree at Guwahati University in 1987. He then started work in the Gauhati High Court. He gained respect quickly as a lawyer. He is married Malabika Goswami. They have a daughter, who is currently studying for her Bachelors at Miranda House (Delhi University). His family tradition of dedication to society with honesty and integrity was passed on to his children. All of his siblings were successful in their respective fields.

Hitendra Nath Goswami currently serves as the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly. He is a member Bharatiya Janata Party. He joined the party on 10 March 2014. He was a member until February 16, 2013, when he quit the party membership to express his disappointment at the inability of the party leadership bring in fresh blood to revitalize the region force. He said he had nothing to do with the regional force’s goals and objectives and that he would continue his anti-Congress stand.
