Hidilyn Diaz is one of the most popular and richest Weightlifter who was born on February 20, 1991 in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. Diaz was the first Filipina weightlifter who competed in consecutive Olympics. She qualified in the women’s weightlifting below 58 kg at the Continental and World Qualifying Tournaments. Her event was the Olympics’ ninth-ranked. Diaz was the opening ceremony flagbearer at the 2012 London Olympics.

In the Asian Weightlifting Championships, Diaz copped a gold medal in 2015 and a bronze medal in 2016. She also earned three bronze medals for the clean, jerk and snatch events in the 53 kg division of the IWF World Weightlifting Championship held in Houston, Texas on November 22, 2015 to claim a spot in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Hidilyn Francisco Diz (Tagalog pronunciation, [haIdI’lin]; born February 20, 1991 in Manila) is a Filipino weightlifter. She was the youngest female competitor in the women’s category of 58 kg at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Bronze medalist at the 2007 SEA Games, Thailand. She also finished 10th in the Asian Games 2006 in the 53-kilogram category. She was a student at the Universidad de Zamboanga and represented her university. She won two golds as well as one silver in the Asian Youth/Junior Weightlifting Championship in Jeonju.

The Philippine Weightlifting Association selected Diaz as a wildcard entry to the Summer Olympics in 2008. In 2008, the Philippine Weightlifting Association selected Diaz as a wild card entry to the Olympics. She is also the second female weightlifter overall, the first being Ramon Solis, her coach. The 17-year old Diaz competed in the women’s class of 58 kg. She lifted 85-kg in snatch, and 107-kg clean and jerk, for a total weight of 192-kg. This broke the Philippine record she set at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. She placed second in a 12-strong field of weightlifters. However, she was highly praised for her performance and was considered promising for her age. William Ramirez, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, once said that she competed in these competitions to gain valuable experience. He predicted that she would be a strong competitor in future competitions.

Diaz was recruited into the Philippine Air Force (PAF) through the military arm’s Direct Enlistment Program in 2013. She was initially assigned to the Air Force Special Service Group. She was also given an Air Force Specialty Code skill in recreation in weightlifting. In 2014, she was given a promotion from the rank of Airwoman to Airwoman Second Class. Diaz was also a recipient of a Military Merit Medal for organizing PAF events and a Presidential Citation Unit Badge. When Diaz was training for her stint at the 2016 Summer Olympics, she was assigned to PAF Personnel Management Center on a temporary basis. For her achievement at the Olympics, she was given a promotion by the PAF. The extent of the promotion was initially not disclosed but it was later reported that Diaz was promoted to the rank of Airwoman First Class. Following Diaz’s stint in the 2018 Asian Games, she was promoted to Airwoman Sergeant.
