Washington, despite not having any professional baseball experience and having only played high school baseball, was a member the Athletics 1974 World Series champion team. Finley stated that Washington would be used as a “designated runners” and that Washington did not need to learn other baseball skills. Washington appeared on the cover for Track and Field News’ February 1972 issue. Washington tied the 50-yard mark at the same Toronto meet in 1973. Washington also won the 100-metre international Pacific Conference Games in Toronto later that summer.
