Conaway was born on January 30, 1963 at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton to Eva Christine Conaway (nee Godard), who was a nurse at Trenton, and Herb Conaway Sr., a history teacher from Bordentown Regional High school. Conaway was raised in Bordentown and attended Bordentown Regional High School. Conaway received a B.A. Conaway graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in Politics and received an M.D. Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University awarded me a J.D. Rutgers School of Law – Newark. Conaway is the only legislator to have both a law and a medical degree. Conaway was a Captain in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, 1992-1996. Conaway served as a general medical officer at McGuire Air Force Base, Burlington County and was also the assistant director of primary care clinic. While he is a legislator, he continues to practice medicine. He is a specialist in internal medicine. He currently directs the St. Francis Medical Center’s internal medicine clinic. He was previously a Cooper University Hospital employee and also had a Willingboro practice. He was a former resident of Delanco Township and now resides in Moorestown.

Conaway criticized the bill as a “recipe to disaster” that could lead to the spread of diseases. She opposed legislation that Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk proposed that would allow parents to exempt their children from mandatory vaccines. This was after hearings were held by the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee in March 2011. Conaway supported 2019 legislation that would eliminate religious exemptions from the mandatory vaccination requirements for students who are eligible to attend school.

Conaway ran in the United States House of Representatives to represent New Jersey’s third congressional district. He lost to Republican Jim Saxton.

Herbert C. Conaway Jr. was born January 30, 1963. He is an American Democratic Party politician who has been a member of the New Jersey General Assembly since 1998. He represents the 7th Legislative District.

Conaway, the 7th District’s top vote-getter, was elected the 7th District’s first General Assembly member in 1997. His running mate, Jack Conners (second- place finisher), was seated in the same election. He was then removed by voting machine issues, and replaced by Kenneth William Faulkner in September 1998. Conners was elected in a 1998 Special Election. The two served together until Conners’ resignation in 2011. Troy Singleton has been Conners’ Assembly associate since late 2011. From 2002 to 2005, he was the Assembly’s deputy speaker.
